KAMEHAMEHA REGATTA

Sunday was the perfect day to hold the Kamehameha Regatta. Conditions were unusually mild for Kailua Beach; a light, cool breeze, barely a shore break, and no portuguese man-of-war. We were blessed!

Hui Nalu finished 4th in the AAA division winning one gold, two silver, seven bronze medals, eight 4th places, ten 5th places, and four 6th places for a total of 88 club points. 6 crews were just out of point contention in 7th place. The goal is to qualify for Waikiki and State’s.

“Great crews may have men or women of exceptional talent or strength…but they have no stars. The team effort - the perfectly synchronized flow of muscle, oars, boat and water; the single, whole, unified and beautiful symphony that a crew in motion becomes-is all that matters. Not the individual, not the self.”

 - Daniel James Brown “The Boys in the Boat”

FATHER'S DAY REGATTA

This week we travel to the West side, Nanakuli Beach, to celebrate Father’s Day. Parking is very limited at the beach and by the time a majority arrive parking will be taken. You can park in the neighborhood.

The 60 Men and Women have takedown duties. The canoes and tent will be driven back to the halau, the canoes washed and dried and trailered to the Blankenfeld compound. The tent will be offloaded back into the halau. If anyone is available to help with this, please come and help. It is Father’s Day, and we know that there are `ohana dinners to get to.

Please note it does take time to get to the Leeward side and find parking. Give yourself plenty of time to get there. See map and information below.

Remember to report to the “Command Center” to check in with Ceci or Ginny!

SAILING TEAM

The Hui Nalu Sailing Team has competed in the first four races for the HSCA 2025 season and is currently in first place!

On May 17th, there were 8 canoes at the start of the 40-mile Big Island to Hana, Alenuihaha Channel race, of which 5 finished, one towed back to the Big Island, one towed to Hana, one still lost at sea, all paddlers safe. Hui Nalu finished 2nd on the Alenuihaha race from Keokea to Hana and 2nd on the 36-mile race from Hana to Kahului the next day.

On June 6th, Hui Nalu took 3rd place in the 26-mile Kahului to Ka’anapali Race. Our June 7th community day was canceled due to high surf on the South Shore. On Sunday June 8th, Hui Nalu finished 4th on a 22-mile out and back race from Ka’anapali, to Puko’o Harbor on Molokai, and back to Ka’anapali.

Our next weekend of racing is June 28 and 29, Ka’anapali to Kaunakakai on Saturday, and Kaunakakai to Waimanalo on Sunday.

We thank the Board, Coaches, and Members of Hui Nalu for continued support of the sailing program.

Mahalo,
